    Ahhh, boring!
OK, don't get me wrong or anything, but I get bored of reading every time I hit a 4th chapter of a book. Especially when things don't get interesting. I've been reading 'How to think...' and it's hard to maintain focus.

I also tried an IDE called PIDA. I still need to understand how it can be better than Emacs or Vi, or what extra functionalities it will give me.

Programming (development) is boring; at least for the ones starting.

    What to study!?
After my last post, I'm on a 'blogging' spree today, I started looking for good online documentation to teach myself Python.

The Online version of Dive Into Python will be a great resource, just not now because it's not for newcomers. I was counting on this book, but then I read the warning and started my searches again.

I found, however, what seems to be a great guide for rookies, and it's very well known on the Internet: How to Think Like a Computer Scientist, which will, luckily, guide me through my first steps.

I always have Tiago (gouki) to borrow me Learning Python Second Edition. The only problem is that it only covers Python 2.3.

    Starting my studies
I have a bit of free time, and even though playing with the computer all day can be fun I decided to put my time into something a bit more productive.

I've been hearing allot good things about Python, so today I decided to REALLY study it. I'll be reading the online freely available documentation and I'll use this journal to report my successes and failures on learning a new programming language.

    Synergy Problems
I've had hopes this would get fix since the release, but unfortunately, it hasn't been...

When using synergyc to connect to synergys (the one with keyboard and mouse) I get EXTREMELY slow response on the client machine. I move the mouse, and approximately, 5 seconds after, the pointer actually moves. It's laggy as hell!

Fortunately I'm not the only one having this issue, and an active discussion is happening on Launchpad. I continue to use the trick of running the client - synergyc - as root; it's not the best choice, but it gets the job done. I don't see any danger on running it as root, tough.

    Debian Live USB
Today I decided to install GNU/Linux on a pen drive, and after some looking around I decided to go with an easy solution. I didn't want to create anything new, just test drive a distribution running on a flash disk.

After a couple of searches I found http://www.pendrivelinux.com/, which is a great site with tutorials on how to run several distributions on a pen drive, including, but no limited to, Debian and Ubuntu. Image running a full Ubuntu install on a Sony Micro Vault; it doesn't get better than that.

After some digging around I decided to give their .IMG a try, which includes Debian with Gnome. No add-ons. Just the operating system with the desktop environment. After following the tutorial I had a bootable USB disk with 'live persistent' boot option, so that changes are saved.

The next step is to remaster Ubuntu 8.04, remove and install some software, and have a custom 'remastered' Ubuntu version for the USB pen drive.

    New weblog (update)
I didn't feel like hosting my own weblog so I decided to change to Live Journal, which I've heard good things about. Wordpress is too Web 2.0 for me, so I think Live Journal will work. The problem is all these advertisements ... Damn, can't a site live without these intrusive things?

The domain name I was using for the weblog, debianubuntu.org, is available, and I'm looking for opinions on what to do with it. Any thoughts?

P.S.: Comments now open; Sorry, I'm still trying to figure all this out.
